Statement by Mayor Fred Eisenberger expressing solidarity with the Muslim community
HAMILTON, ON - There is no place for racism or hate in our community. Our hearts go out to the two women who were victims of an incident on July 12th in Ancaster that included threats and anti-Muslim slurs and is being investigated by Hamilton Police as a hate-based crime.
I want to thank Hamilton Police for their swift response and ongoing investigation. If anyone has any information about this unacceptable act of racism, I encourage you to please call police or Crime Stoppers.
No one in our community ought to be victimized in this way and subjected to hate, racism or Islamophobia. Every single person in our city – regardless of what faith you practice, your skin colour, how your dress, where you come from or who you love – deserves to feel safe, respected and valued.
I stand in solidarity with the Muslim community and remain committed to a Hamilton for all.
