Statement by Mayor Fred Eisenberger on Veterans’ Week and Remembrance Day
HAMILTON, ON – Veterans’ Week, which runs from November 5 to 11, 2021, provides us with the opportunity to reflect and remember the hundreds of thousands of Canadians who served and sacrificed to protect the freedom of our country.
I encourage everyone throughout this week, leading up to Remembrance Day on Thursday, November 11, to wear red poppies in honour of those who gave their lives in service to our country.
The 2021 Remembrance Day ceremony at the Gore Park Cenotaph will be livestreamed on Cable14 and the City of Hamilton’s YouTube Channel, beginning at 10:30 am. on Thursday, November 11. We encourage everyone to tune into the livestream. Please do not go to the Gore Park Cenotaph.
All flags at City of Hamilton facilities will be lowered to half staff on Thursday, November 11, and returned to full staff on Friday, November 12, as we pay tribute to our veterans, Canadians in uniform, and their families.
On November 11 at 11 am, I call on everyone to observe two minutes of silence. Thank you to every Hamiltonian and Canadian who sacrificed their future for us.
We will always remember. Lest we forget.
