Temporary closure of Bennetto Community Centre for scheduled maintenance upgrades
HAMILTON, ON – Effective October 2, Bennetto Community Centre will be closed to allow for scheduled maintenance work on the roof and HVAC system. Work will be paused on-site to accommodate advanced and election day polling stations for the 2022 Municipal Election on October 7, 8, 14, 15 and 24. Following this pause, work will resume, and the facility is anticipated to reopen in early winter.
The scope of work includes:
- Replacement of portions of the roof
- Removal and reinstallation of existing HVAC ductwork units
To minimize disruptions in service and programming at the Centre, the closure will enable all required maintenance work to be completed safely at one-time.
During the closure, residents are encouraged to participate in programs that have been relocated to Norman Pinky Lewis Recreation Complex and Ryerson Recreation Centre.
This work is part of a robust preventative maintenance program managed through the City’s Energy, Fleet and Facilities Management Division in Public Works, which routinely assesses upkeep requirements for Hamilton’s recreation centres, arenas, senior centres, indoor and outdoor pools and community halls. Building condition assessments are performed every five to seven years to determine when maintenance or larger capital replacement work is required.
Regular facilities maintenance is completed approximately every two years. Scheduled maintenance is dependent on the age of the facility and its frequency of use.
The City of Hamilton thanks residents for their patience as we complete these important maintenance upgrades.
