Tourism Hamilton to Recognize 2015 Convention and Sport Ambassadors Who Contributed to $16 Million Local Economic Impact
Hamilton, ON – May 19, 2016 – The City of Hamilton’s Tourism and Culture Division will recognize Hamiltonians who have brought their sport event or convention to Hamilton in 2015 during a special recognition event at the Visitor Information Centre in the Lister Building on Tuesday, May 31.
The event will acknowledge contributions these organizations have made to the city and encourage other meeting and sport event planners to host their events in Hamilton.
“In 2015, the City of Hamilton welcomed 132 meetings, conventions and sport events to Hamilton with an estimated economic impact of $16 million,” says Susan Monarch, Manager of Tourism Hamilton. “Bringing in this kind of business is vital to our local restaurants, shops, hotels and many other attractions.”
Hamilton attracts around 4.5 million total visitors annually and who spend an estimated $359.5 million a year
900 CHML will be broadcasting live from the Visitor Information Centre in Lister at 28 James St. North throughout the day on May 31. Special guests will include members of Hamilton’s leading tourism businesses, meeting and sport planners, City of Hamilton staff and representatives of the music industry.
The event coincides with National Tourism Awareness Week - May 29 to June 4, 2016 which marks the impact of tourism in Canada.
