Trailblazing Women’s Firefighter Camp now accepting applications
HAMILTON, ON – August 11, 2017 - Applications are now being accepted to participate in Hamilton’s Third Annual Camp FFIT (Female Firefighters in Training). Women aged16-19 are eligible to apply.
About Camp FFIT
Camp FFIT provides women with a unique opportunity to explore the fire service as a career. Firefighting activities offered include search and rescue, hose techniques, aerial ladder climbing, using protective firefighter gear and learning fitness and nutrition. Beyond building excitement for firefighting as a career, Camp FFIT seeks to boost the confidence and leadership skills of young women.
The cost of Camp FFIT is $50 which includes a t-shirt, lunches and all instruction. Subsidies are available through the City of Hamilton Recreation Subsidy Program for those who qualify. Applicants are asked to complete a form including a short essay detailing their interest in firefighting. Application are available at www.hamilton.ca/campffit and the deadline for application is September 22, 2017.
The camp will take place at the Multi-Agency Training Complex at 1227 Stonechurch Road East from October 13-15, 2017.
Camp FFIT began in 2009 as an initiative of Ottawa Fire Department and Fire Service Women Ontario (FSWO) and has spread to a number of Ontario cities.
