Two Water/Rope Rescues Simultaneously Responded to by Firefighters
HAMILTON, ON - August 7, 2017 - The Hamilton Fire Department responded to two water/rope rescue calls beginning at approximately 1:03 pm at the Lower Chedoke Falls. Crews were notified of a family was stranded on rocks. Crews located the family at the Lower Chedoke Falls area on rocks with fast moving water all round them. Over time the fast moving water was allowed to recede and with the assistance from the Hamilton Police Services Marine Unit, allowed firefighters to remove the family from the rocks safely with ropes and harness. There were no reported injuries.
At the second call, firefighters responded at approximately 1:36 pm to the report of a rope rescue at Albion Falls. Upon arrival, crews were in the process of locating the persons stranded at Albion Falls. Crews located approximately ten persons and three dogs that were unable to return to the top, as the trails were very slippery and impassible from the rain storm that passed through the area. Rope rescue equipment was deployed to bring the ten persons and three dogs up to the top. The ten persons stranded were brought up one by one with ropes and harness and assisted by firefighters to the top. There were no reported injuries.
