Update: Down-bound Claremont Escarpment Access Remains Closed
HAMILTON, ON – December 9, 2016 – In the interest of public safety, the down-bound lanes of the Claremont escarpment access remained closed while the City of Hamilton continues to work with experts to identify solutions and plans to complete the necessary remedial work.
The City is continuing to implement changes to help alleviate the traffic inconveniences the closure is causing. We will continue to monitor the area and make adjustments to improve traffic timing throughout the duration of the closure.
Exact details of the remedial work are still being planned, but crews are currently focused on securing portions of the damaged bin walls. More details on the specific duration and details of the repairs will follow when available.
Crews are working as fast as possible in the dynamic environment along the Claremont, and the City is currently evaluating the cost impacts. The cost will be driven by the solution(s) required from an immediate and long-term perspective. The City is investigating a full range of options and acknowledges that some longer-term solutions may have significant cost implications and are still being evaluated.
Currently, the northbound (down-bound) lanes are closed from Upper James at Inverness Avenue through to Victoria Ave. More information on potential lane adjustments will follow.
The City thanks motorists for their patience and cooperation as we work to ensure continued public safety along the escarpment roadways.
