Update on flooding throughout the City of Hamilton
HAMILTON, ON - April 21, 2017 - Due to the significant rainfall event yesterday, the City of Hamilton experienced substantial localized flooding throughout several areas across the city overnight. Most of the flooded areas have subsided, but some areas are still under water.
Crews are continuing to respond to the flooding and are working to clear blocked catch basins, inlets and outlets to encourage proper drainage. City staff and contractors will be out cleaning up and clearing debris throughout the day today and into the weekend as necessary.
The Woodward Wastewater Treatment Plant experienced extremely high flows of water overnight and was at capacity. Everything at the plant is currently operational. Flows at the Dundas Wastewater Treatment Plant remain quite high as this area was hit hard.
The Waterfront Trail has been closed between Princess Point and the Desjardins Canal (near the York Blvd Stairs) because it is currently underwater. The trail will reopen once the water has subsided.
