Update: One down-bound lane on the Claremont access to re-open Wednesday
HAMILTON, ON – One down-bound lane on the Claremont escarpment access is scheduled to re-open this Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at approximately 6 pm
In the interest of public safety, all down-bound lanes on the access were closed in late November while crews repaired and removed portions of damaged bin walls and worked to make the access safer.
One additional down-bound lane is expected to re-open in late-March after the installation of a precautionary rock fence.
The recent closure was an immediate-term fix. Future full or partial closures of the access are likely as the City develops medium and longer-term solutions to remedy the issues along the access. The City is continuing to work with escarpment slope experts and is investigating a full range of options. We acknowledge that some longer-term solutions may have significant cost implications and are still being evaluated.
“I have seen tremendous patience and understanding from our community. I want to thank motorists for their cooperation as we work to ensure continued public safety along our escarpment accesses.”
Mayor Fred Eisenberger
