We are seeking public comment on Gore Park Beacons Public Art finalists
HAMILTON, ON - March 8, 2017 – The public is invited to provide their comments on three short-listed artists’ proposals for artwork to be installed on two new beacon features to be installed at the eastern and western entrances of Gore Park.
A jury of volunteer citizens, stakeholders and artists has reviewed 28 artists’ submissions and have short-listed three proposals. Before the jury meets to select the winning proposal, they want to know the opinions of members of the public.
Provide your comments
Members of the public can learn more about the goal and themes for the project, review the artists’ proposals and provide their comments in two ways:
- Online: Visit www.hamilton.ca/goreparkbeacons. You will have until Sunday, March 26 to submit your comments.
- In-person: The public can review proposals and provide comments in person at the Tourism Hamilton Information Centre, 28 James Street North (The Lister Building), during regular hours until Friday, March 24.
Comments collected will be provided to the citizen jury to be considered among other criteria such as artistic excellence, response to context, and technical issues in their determination of the winning proposal.
These comments and a Jury Report outlining the reasons for their decision will also be posted to the project web page. The winning artist will receive up to $4,000 ($1000 for each of the 4 beacon faces) for the use of their work, which is to be installed by the City as part of the ongoing Gore Park revitalization project.
