West leg of the Serman Access and Wentworth Stairs re-opened today

HAMILTON, ON - December 21, 2017 – The City of Hamilton re-opened the west leg of the Sherman Access and the entire length of the Wentworth Stairs on the evening of Thursday, December 21, 2017. 

The west leg of the Sherman Access was closed for reconstruction in early summer 2017. The access has new retaining structures running alongside the roadway to ensure safety for motorists. The footings at the base of the Wentworth Stairs were also rehabilitated starting in late summer. Crews completed proactive work to alleviate erosion along the footpath beside the stairs.  

The City will conduct additional maintenance work on the west leg of the Sherman Access later in 2018.  

The City thanks motorists for their patience and cooperation as we work to ensure continued public safety along the escarpment roadways.
