Whitehern Historic House & Garden presents Downtown Flair in the spirit of Downton Abbey

Hamilton, ON – The public are invited to experience an exciting afternoon of Downtown Flair at Whitehern Historic House & Garden, 41 Jackson St. W., and nearby St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church on Sun. Feb. 16 from 12:30 pm to 4 pm. Pre-registration is required. Tickets are $20 per person available for purchase from St. Paul’s Church at 905-522-2792 or [email protected].

In the spirit of the popular television series, Downton Abbey, participants will enjoy portrayals at Whitehern citing some of the ‘juicier’ excerpts from the McQuesten family letters and a brief but fiery old-time sermon in St. Paul’s Chapel. The drama is followed by tea and cake in the church hall and a basic waltz lesson with an opportunity to take some turns on the floor dancing to waltz music from different eras. Visitors can choose to don their fancy clothing to celebrate fashion from 1812-1930 while engaging in an afternoon of drama, treats and a vintage waltz.

• Whitehern Historic House & Garden is a National Historic Site of Canada owned by the City of Hamilton.
• Three generations of the McQuesten family lived at Whitehern from 1852 until 1968. Among the last generation were six children who never married. In 1959, the three surviving members of the family bequeathed the home to the City with all its original contents.
• Whitehern is one of the finest examples of an intact historic home in Canada.
