Description of lobbying activity
The 272 Caroline St S Tenant Association was formed by the tenants of 272-280 Caroline St S, Hamilton and incorporated as a not-for-profit association. Our goals are to build community as neighbours and to advocate for our shared concerns as tenants: apartments in a good state of repair, affordable rents, and housing security. When we learned our landlord listed our apartment building for sale in December 2022, we worried we would face rent hikes and reno-victions if he were to sell to an investment company. We formed our association with the goal of purchasing the building and converting it to a not-for-profit rental housing co-operative. Our lobbying activities with City of Hamilton staff and councillors relate to affordable housing funding programs and policies that could assist us in this initiative, as well as future initiatives by other tenant groups and non-profit housing providers looking to do similar apartment building acquisitions.

Description of lobbying activity
I hope this message finds you in good health and high spirits. We are writing to advocate for a crucial initiative that could significantly impact the visual appeal and environmental sustainability of our beloved city, Hamilton. Our proposal pertains to the implementation of professional power washing services across various public spaces, aiming to rejuvenate our urban landscapes and foster a cleaner, more attractive community for residents and visitors alike.
Background:
Hamilton is renowned for its rich history, vibrant culture, and stunning natural landscapes. However, the wear and tear of time, weather, and urban activity can take a toll on the appearance of our streets, sidewalks, public buildings, and infrastructure. Power washing, with its ability to efficiently remove dirt, grime, pollutants, and graffiti, presents an opportunity to restore the allure of these spaces while simultaneously promoting environmental responsibility.
Key Benefits:
Enhanced Aesthetics: Power washing can bring back the original beauty of public spaces, ensuring that Hamilton remains an inviting and picturesque destination for residents and tourists alike.
Preservation of Infrastructure: Regular power washing can extend the lifespan of various structures, preventing decay and degradation caused by accumulated debris, mold, and pollutants.
Health and Safety: Clean surfaces contribute to a healthier urban environment by reducing allergens, bacteria, and the risk of accidents resulting from slippery walkways.
Environmental Responsibility: Modern power washing techniques utilize eco-friendly solutions and minimize water wastage through efficient technology, aligning with Hamilton's commitment to sustainability.
Our Proposal:
We propose the establishment of a partnership between the City of Hamilton and reputable power washing service providers. This partnership would involve a comprehensive evaluation of high-traffic areas, public buildings, parks, and sidewalks that could benefit from a thorough cleaning. The power washing schedule would be strategically planned to minimize disruption to daily activities while maximizing the impact of the cleaning efforts.
Funding and Implementation:
We understand the financial constraints that municipalities often face, but we firmly believe that the long-term benefits of investing in this initiative far outweigh the costs. Collaborative funding sources, including potential public-private partnerships or grants for urban beautification, could help support this project.
Community Engagement:
Inclusivity is at the heart of our proposal. We encourage open dialogue and community involvement in determining the priority areas for power washing. Engaging with local residents, business owners, and community organizations can help identify key locations and ensure that this initiative resonates with the diverse needs of Hamilton's population.
Conclusion:
As passionate advocates for Hamilton's prosperity, we urge you, Mayor [Mayor's Last Name], and esteemed City Councillors, to consider the immense value that a citywide power washing initiative could bring to our community. By revitalizing our public spaces and promoting environmental stewardship, we can collectively contribute to the continued growth and attractiveness of Hamilton.
Thank you for your time and consideration. We eagerly await the opportunity to discuss this proposal further and explore its potential implementation for the benefit of our city and its residents.
