Advancing physical literacy at the 4th Annual Ontario Physical Literacy Summit
June 16, 2016 - Hamilton, ON - Hamilton continues to advance Physical Literacy with the 4th annual Physical Literacy Summit taking place on Thursday, September 1, 2016. The summit brings together parents, teachers, coaches, instructors and program providers responsible for the physical literacy development of children and provides opportunities for attendees to build their knowledge and enhance their skills to deliver developmentally and fundamentally sound movement practices.
This year’s summit will include an emphasis on the importance of enjoying physical activity throughout the lifespan in the theme: Everybody, Everywhere, Everyday. This year’s Summit will also include a focus on inclusive and equitable physical literacy practices to connect the long-term potential of all children, adolescents, adults who are developing physical literacy.

Summit speakers
Dr. John Cairney, professor in the Faculty of Kinesiology at the University of Toronto, former director of the INCH Lab at McMaster University, and a leading expert in motor development, physical activity and health in children and youth. Dr. Cairney is the Chair of the Physical Literacy Research Group at Sport4Life.
Dr. Dean Kriellaars, associate professor in the Department of Physical Therapy, School of Medical Rehabilitation in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Manitoba. Dr. Dean works in rehabilitation and high-performance sport and has pioneered programs that have been adopted nationwide.
About the Hamilton Physical Literacy Committee
Physical Literacy for All is a multi-sectoral committee committed to ensuring all Hamilton children and youth are physically literate based on their developmental potential. Representation from the group comes from the school boards, recreation, health, sport, and early years.
