Afternoon fire sends one person to Hospital
HAMILTON, ON – June 14, 2016 – The Hamilton Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 1008 King Street East, Hamilton at approximately 2:11 pm this afternoon.
This is a three storey building with five commercial units on the first floor, residential apartments on the second and third floors.
Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed a working fire in a unit on the 3rd floor of the building with heavy smoke and fire venting from a third floor window. There was also a report of one person jumping from a third floor window to escape the fire. As a result the alarm was then upgraded to a multiple alarm bringing additional fire crews to the scene.
Firefighters contained the fire to the one apartment unit with other units receiving smoke damage. The damage is estimated at approximately $400,000 and there is no official cause for the fire at this time.
The lone injury reported at this fire scene was the person who had jumped from the third floor. The patient was immediately placed in the care of Paramedics and transported directly to Hospital.
