ArcelorMittal Dofasco COVID-19 vaccine clinic to close after July 29

HAMILTON, ON - The ArcelorMittal Dofasco COVID-19 vaccine clinic at the Centre on Barton will close after July 29, 2021. As the demand for COVID-19 vaccine decreases, and the number of people remaining to be vaccinated becomes smaller, Hamilton’s COVID-19 vaccine program will begin a careful and measured winding-down and of large-scale mass vaccination clinics through to the end of August.

ArcelorMittal Vaccine Clinic at the Centre on Barton, Hamilton’s first employer-led and funded community accessible clinic, opened on June 21, 2021 accommodating both ArcelorMittal Dofasco employees and residents in the Community. To date the clinic has administered over 16,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine.

Individuals with appointments scheduled at the ArcelorMittal Dofasco COVID-19 vaccination clinic after July 29 will be contacted directly via text and email notifying them of the closure and links with information on locations to walk-in or book a second dose vaccine appointment. COVID-19 Vaccine Hotline Staff will also reach out by telephone to assist in these efforts.

Hamilton residents 12 years of age and older are encouraged to get their first dose and to move up their second dose, at least 28 days after their first dose, to get fully vaccinated sooner. There are many appointments available for anyone who still needs a vaccine. Walk-in or schedule an appointment at your convenience at any of Hamilton’s large-scale vaccine clinics, neighbourhood mobile pop-up clinics, primary care led clinics, or one of the 100+ pharmacies offering COVID-19 vaccines in Hamilton.

Public Health Services recommends that everyone who is eligible for a vaccination receive the first vaccine that is available to them. We need to work together to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in our community, to reserve healthcare and hospital capacity and to protect vulnerable populations.

• Over 700,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Hamilton.
• Hamilton’s large-scale clinics have been essential in administering significant volumes of vaccine in a short period of time to community members – over two thirds of the doses administered in Hamilton.
• Increasing the coverage rates of those partly and fully vaccinated will help to make sure Hamilton can move forward through Step Three of Ontario’s Roadmap to Reopen.
• Hamilton’s COVID-19 Vaccination goal is to reach 80 per cent coverage, with at minimum 75 per cent coverage in any area of the City.
• The Pfizer vaccine is currently the only COVID-19 vaccine that has been authorized by Health Canada for individuals ages 12 to 17.
• All vaccination planning is based on and contingent on available COVID-19 vaccine supply. Vaccine administration rates may differ based on local context.
