Celebrate Hamilton’s Arts Community at the 2018 City of Hamilton Arts Awards
Hamilton, ON – As part of Hamilton Arts Week, the public is invited to join dignitaries, past award winners and 75 nominated artists to celebrate Hamilton’s vibrant arts community, for the announcement of this year’s City of Hamilton Arts Awards winners on Wed., June 6 at Theatre Aquarius Dofasco Centre for the Arts.
Doors open at 5:30 pm with a catered reception including a cash bar and a culinary experience connecting you to Hamilton’s diverse cultural communities. Art, music and performances by local artists will animate both indoor and outdoor spaces.
Commencing at 7:00 pm, the awards ceremony will honour local artists and their achievements, and will feature spoken word, live music, Ukrainian dance and local fashion design.
Nineteen awards will be presented in ten disciplines including Lifetime Achievement, Arts Innovation and new this year, The Shirley Elford Prize for an emerging artist.
The emcee for the ceremony will be local comedian and arts award winner Clifford Myers. Other artists and performers featured at the event include: Emilil Bonito, Sarah Good, Stylo Starr, OPTICKS, Form Contemporary Dance, Kahsenniyo Tahnee Williams, Angela DeMontigny, The Chaika Ukrainian Ensemble, and Wax Mannequin.

First presented in 1976, the Hamilton Arts Awards program is one of the oldest in Canada. It continues to recognize the vital contributions of the city’s arts sector and to celebrate the exceptional achievements of individual artists and organizations.
The Hamilton Arts Awards program is managed by the Tourism and Culture Division at the City of Hamilton. Cobalt Connects, the 2018 Arts Awards community partner, oversees the adjudication process and awards event production. Independent juries comprised of discipline-specific artists and arts professionals evaluate all nominations.
