Central Neighbourhood upgrades beginning Tuesday
HAMILTON, ON – On Tuesday, May 25, the City of Hamilton will begin construction as part of the Central Neighbourhood upgrades project in the downtown core. The project will continue throughout the summer and fall months and reach substantial completion in December, 2021.
A brief summary of the Central Neighbourhood upgrades include:
- Watermain and sewer replacement
- Road and sidewalk reconstruction
- Road resurfacing
- Intersection improvements
As part of these upgrades, the intersection at Mulberry St and MacNab St N will be closed beginning on or about Tuesday, May 25 for approximately six weeks. Work in this intersection is expected to wrap up on or before July 6, 2021, weather permitting.
Local access on Mulberry St and MacNab St N will be maintained, but there will be no through access at the intersection.
Once the work at the Mulberry St and MacNab St N intersection is complete, the following closures will take place over the summer and fall months:
- James St N between Barton St and Cannon St
- Bay St N between Barton St and Cannon St
- Barton St N between Bay St N and James St N
HSR detours and service delays for all closures will be available at: hamilton.ca/hsrdetours
There will be limited on-street parking availability during construction.
Businesses in the area will remain open throughout the duration of the construction. Residents and businesses impacted by noise, dust or changes in water services will be notified in advance.
