"The City of Hamilton is committed to providing a safe, respectful and inclusive environment. This ceremony is part of a worldwide celebration of humanity, acceptance, education and diversity. We are proud to partake in that celebration.” - Mayor Fred Eisenberger
“Hamilton has much to celebrate this Pride Month. Last year, we implemented the Trans Protocol in order to create full equality for citizens in all City services and buildings, without discrimination on the basis of gender expression or gender identity. This year, we launched the staff training component of the Protocol, in order to ensure that every City employee understands their obligations of respect and equality to the trans and non-binary communities. Council also formally asked the Local Health Integration Network (LHIN), this year, to address and resolve the local crisis of trans health inequity. The Globe & Mail described the City’s Trans Protocol work as “leading edge” human rights law. As the first openly queer politician elected in Hamilton, I am honoured to be working to move the City forward on all equity issues.” - Councillor Aidan Johnson
