City of Hamilton launches new centralized call number for building inspections
HAMILTON, ON – The City of Hamilton is making it more convenient for those who are renovating or making structural buildings changes to obtain a building inspection. Now, if you have a building permit, you can use their new, centralized call number to start the process of obtaining a building inspection. No more following up with individual inspectors to book an appointment or to find out the status of your appointment request.
It’s all part of the City’s “Open for Business” initiative with the goal of streamlining processes to create consistent, predictable and customer-focused services that encourage investment of small and medium sized enterprises and support for entrepreneurs.

Customers will call the usual City of Hamilton number, 905-546-2424 (CITY), then enter the new extension, 7777. Staff will ask you a few questions and take down your information which will be logged into a database. An appointment will be set up and a file created so your request will be tracked for your convenience.
The big change is that to request a building inspection, you must call this extension and not an inspector directly. The new service allows for greater efficiency of services, better use of staff time and the ability to track and deliver this service to you in a seamless manner. Customers can also call the new dedicated number to file complaints about construction without a building permit, to file a notice of a potentially unsafe building and for any questions regarding the inspection process or issued permits.
