City of Hamilton launches Online Building Permits
HAMILTON, ON – The City of Hamilton is taking your building permits online with a new service launching today. It’s as easy as completing an online application, uploading your digital drawings and documents, sending in any revisions electronically and then receiving your approved building permit. It’s all part of the City’s “Open for Business” initiative with the goal of streamlining processes to create consistent, predictable and customer-focused services that encourage investment of small and medium sized enterprises and support for entrepreneurs.
In order to make the new transition as simple as possible, citizens now have a choice. You can still submit your building permits and documentation in paper form and come into City Hall or submit electronically. Both processes will be working in tandem so citizens just need to choose the one way that works best for them.
Advantages of the online submission process:
Convenient:
- Track your process online
- No need to drive to City Hall or wait in line to review paperwork
Business Friendly:
- Print your building permit yourself, pick it up at City Hall or request it be mailed to you
Efficient:
- Your account is available to you 24/7
- Digital files are easily shared and several staff can assist with the permit request at the same time
“The City is very pleased to provide the opportunity for residents and businesses to apply for building permits online. This initiative saves time, fuel and paper further supporting the growth our city is experiencing. Whether you are a builder, architect, developer or homeowner, we know that submitting plans and drawings digitally will be a benefit. It also makes good business sense as it allows for efficiencies as several staff can now assist on a file at the same time,” says Ed VanderWindt, Director of Building and Chief Building Official, City of Hamilton.
