City of Hamilton Summit on our Air Quality
HAMILTON, ON - While air quality has improved significantly over the past 20 years, air quality still remains an important health and environmental concern in Hamilton. For Hamilton, it’s about striking the right balance between the economy, environmental stewardship, and improving and protecting human health.
"People deserve clean air to breathe. That's why Hamilton continues to be a leader in collaboration and partnership development for addressing complex environmental issues. This summit focuses on the importance of air quality and the health of our people. It also provides opportunity to learn from one another, discuss complex challenges, realize opportunities, and to continue to contribute to a healthy and prosperous community."
City of Hamilton Mayor Fred Eisenberger
It’s well known that clean air improves the lives of residents, in particular those that live, work and play in areas with higher air pollution.
The City of Hamilton’s Air Summit on Friday, September 14 will be a gathering of leading experts and professionals in the fields of air quality, engineering, and public health to facilitate discussion and build stronger partnerships to address complex air quality issues and solutions in Hamilton and across the province.
“The City of Hamilton is pleased to welcome representatives from the Environmental Commissioner of Ontario’s Office, the Hamilton Industrial Environment Association, Environment Hamilton and Golder Associates Ltd. We would also thank Dr. Denis Corr, former chair of Clean Air Hamilton who will be moderating Hamilton’s Air Summit. This type of collaborative work is very important to improving Hamilton’s air quality.”
Matthew Lawson, Manager Health Hazards, Healthy and Safe Communities Department
The Air Summit will open with a presentation from Michelle Kassel, Senior Manager, Legislative Analysis, at the Office of the Environmental Commissioner of Ontario (ECO). Expert panel discussions will focus on the results of Hamilton’s Airshed Model, and emerging provincial policies and other air quality concerns including fine airborne particulate matter (PM2.5). This free event is open to the public, as well as being available via livestream. Attendees will be given opportunity to ask questions and address panellists at the end of each panel discussion.
