City reminding residents to go green during Waste Reduction Week
HAMILTON, ON – Beginning today, as part of Waste Reduction Week the City of Hamilton is encouraging residents to make environmentally conscious changes every day.
All week long, the City will be lighting the Hamilton Sign green and blue to remind residents to swap, share and repair old items and reduce household waste.
In honour of Waste Reduction Week, the City is sharing tips about eco-friendly alternatives to disposing waste.
Waste reduction tips
- Reducing plastic: Swap single use items for products that can be reused. . Making simple changes in everyday life can make a big difference in reducing a plastic footprint.
- Shopping smart: Extend the life of clothes through donating gently used items, and repurposing fabric. Shop second hand for items like accessories, clothing and furniture.
- Planning ahead: Make a grocery list, plan meals and get creative with leftovers to reduce food waste.
- Recycling electronic and hazardous waste: Dispose of e-waste and other household hazardous waste at a Community Recycling Centre.
- Travel smart: While the weather is still favourable, consider leaving the car at home and taking your bike.
