CityHousing Hamilton project set to provide more housing for seniors
HAMILTON, ON – To support its ongoing commitment to providing social and affordable housing in Hamilton, the CityHousing Hamilton (CHH) Board of Directors has taken an important next step in the revitalization of CHH property 500 MacNab.
In late 2016, the Board of CHH confirmed its intention to retain and revitalize the apartment building located at 500 MacNab. Previously home to single tenants less than 60 years of age, the Board also decided that based on demographic and geographic information for this area, the building would be best suited to providing housing for seniors. Currently, CHH is working towards securing funding to rehabilitate this aging 17-storey apartment tower to incorporate ultra-low energy standards. Once this funding is secured, the building project will move forward.
To prepare for these renovations, residents currently living in the building have been relocated to other CHH properties. The CHH Board has also committed to re-housing any seniors who were living in the building and would like to return once the renovations are complete. To ensure the area is secure during the renovation, safety fencing has been installed and there is a security guard present 24 hours a day.
Renovations are expected to begin later in 2018.
