Construction on James Street South beginning Monday – traffic and pedestrian impacts in the area
HAMILTON, ON – The City of Hamilton will begin construction on James Street South between Duke Street and Hunter Street on Monday, May 7, 2018.
In order to safely complete the construction, all northbound lanes will be closed to traffic between Young Street and Hunter Street. This section of James Street South will be temporarily converted to southbound traffic only until approximately August 2018.
The construction will include rehabilitation of the sidewalks and boulevards, removal of the stairs, and repairs to the retaining wall structure and drainage in the area.
Motorists are encouraged to use the signed detour on Young Street, John Street S and Hunter Street. Pedestrians in the area should also obey the posted signage.
HSR service will be maintained, however customers may experience delays while traveling through the area. Impacts to individual bus stops will be well marked.
Work on James Street South is expected to be complete by August 2018.
The City of Hamilton thanks residents for their patience as we complete these important infrastructure upgrades.
