COVID-19 Update: Updates from the City of Hamilton - Mar. 27, 2020

HAMILTON, ON - Earlier today, Mayor Fred Eisenberger joined Dr. Bart Harvey, Associate Medical Officer of Health, and the City’s Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) Director, Paul Johnson, to update media and the community on the City’s response to COVID-19.

As of noon today, there are 51 confirmed cases and 1 death from COVID-19 in Hamilton.

Support from other levels of government
The City continues to monitor financial supports for residents put forward by the provincial and federal governments. To assist with local understanding, the City has compiled current information in an easy-to-understand format on its website www.hamilton.ca/coronavirus/financial-support-individuals, which will soon be available in other languages as well.

Ongoing closures
Residents are reminded of the following closures to the public: Chedoke and King’s Forest golf courses and their respective parking lots, play structures at City parks, Albion Falls and respective parking lots, City of Hamilton facilities and Hamilton Conservation Authority sites.

Special Event Application Team (S.E.A.T.)
The City is not accepting any new S.E.A.T. applications. We are still reviewing this process and any pre-approved events that were scheduled to take place after April 5. We will continue to communicate with our S.E.A.T. applicants regarding their applications. Many event organizers have already cancelled their application requests for event permits.

Hamilton Farmers’ Market
To further help fight the spread of COVID-19 while continuing to serve the needs of the community and our vendors, the Hamilton Farmers’ Market is reducing its hours of operation to 9 A.M. to 4 P.M. each Market day Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. In addition, entrance to the Market is no longer available through Jackson Square; shoppers must enter through the York Street doors.

Recreation programming reminder
The City is delaying the start of spring recreation programming by at least two weeks in order to continue to monitor the provincial direction on school closures and ensure that we have time to plan accordingly for the restart of recreation programs and services.

Earth Hour this weekend
With our focus on responding to the COVID-19 emergency, the City will not be promoting this initiative this year, but we welcome the public to still acknowledge it in their own way.
