Dundurn National Historic Site Presents Reid’s Dundurn Ale Beer Sampling
HAMILTON, ON – The public is invited to savour Hamilton’s history with a free beer and recipe sampling on Sunday, December 16 from 12 noon to 4 pm in The Coach House Hayloft at Dundurn National Historic Site, 610 York Boulevard.
This event will feature samples of an adapted 19th century beer recipe made with ingredients from Dundurn’s Kitchen Garden, samples of seasonal recipes made in the Historic Kitchen, an exhibit of modern and historic brewing equipment, as well as a video about our beer making process.
“We were thrilled to have been able to partner with a local brewer to adapt an historic beer recipe using hops grown onsite. Local history really comes to life when you can smell and taste the same food and drink of the people we normally only interact with through artifacts and archives.” - Victoria Bick, Historic Garden Coordinator, Dundurn National Historic Site
Quick Facts
- Reid’s Dundurn Ale was brewed by Devan Reid of Valentino’s Restaurant (Westdale location) and named after William Reid, the 19th century Head Gardener at Dundurn Castle.
- The hops for the beer were grown in Dundurn’s Kitchen Garden, where over 200 types of heirloom fruits, vegetables, flowers, and herbs are grown each year.
