Extensive smoke damage from restaurant fire
HAMILTON, ON – February 23, 2018 – Hamilton Fire Department responded to a report of smoke conditions at 73 Wilson Street West, Ancaster at approximately 4:15 pm this afternoon. Upon arrival firefighters confirmed heavy smoke conditions inside Cora restaurant one of the units in this one storey commercial plaza and requested an upgrade to a multiple alarm structure fire which brought additional firefighters to the scene to assist in the firefighting operation.
Firefighters began to attack the fire from inside the restaurant and quickly knockdown and extinguished the fire. The fire caused heavy smoke damage to the unit. As a precaution, adjoining units were evacuated due to the migration of smoke into those units. All units were safely evacuated with no injuries. No extension of fire was found in any other unit.
Damage to the restaurant is extensive and has an estimated dollar loss of $250,000. The cause of the fire is undetermined and the Office of the Fire Marshal has been contacted to assist with the cause determination.
