Fieldcote Memorial Park & Museum Seeks community input to interpret the ‘Ancaster Story’

HAMILTON, ON - Fieldcote Memorial Park & Museum is seeking community input to inform a new permanent exhibit, for a future expanded museum, celebrating the natural and cultural heritage of Ancaster. In the interim, a temporary exhibition is being planned to help inform and lay the groundwork for this permanent gallery. 

To remain relevant and reflect the community’s past in a meaningful way, staff are seeking input from residents and inviting them to share their perception of Ancaster; what events they feel have shaped the community, and what makes it unique.    

Throughout the summer months until Aug. 31, staff will gather thoughts and feelings from the community through an on-line survey at www.hamilton.ca/AncasterStories, or in-person by completing a written form available at the Ancaster Branch of the Hamilton Public Library on the second floor, 300 Wilson St., Ancaster.   

Perched on the edge of the escarpment, with a bounty of water and resources, Ancaster has long attracted humans since the retreat of the last glacier over 8,000 years ago. Fieldcote seeks to tell the story of Ancaster from the earliest human occupants to the present day.

Fieldcote is a cultural heritage centre with an emphasis on the collection, preservation and exhibition of local Ancaster history, the promotion of fine arts and the celebration of natural heritage through beautiful landscaped gardens and rustic walking trails.
