GTHA Mayors and Chairs committed to addressing resurgence
HAMILTON, ON - Today, Mayors and Chairs from the 11 largest municipal governments across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area took part in their weekly call on the ongoing response to COVID-19.
The Mayors and Chairs continue to be committed to working together with each other and with the provincial and federal governments to address escalating case counts.
During today's discussion, the Mayors and Chairs agreed that our public health efforts must be focused on keeping schools open for children and protecting long-term care home residents.
To help in this effort, the Mayors and Chairs continue to urge all residents to follow public health advice. Beyond work and school where precautions are in place, now is not the time to gather with people from outside your own household. That, along with wearing a mask and washing your hands, is the best way to keep healthy and avoid spreading COVID-19 right now.
More specifically, the Mayors and Chairs called upon residents to follow public health advice and show restraint in Thanksgiving gatherings. It simply isn't worth putting the health of family members at risk. The best way to be thankful for family members at Thanksgiving is to follow public health advice.
“All of us can help manage further spread of the virus by avoiding gathering with those outside your household, downloading the COVID-19 alert app on your smartphone, wearing a mask and washing your hands frequently. The majority of community members are adhering to public health recommendations and to those individuals we thank you. All of us must do our part and continue to follow public health advice in order to help stop the spread and contain the second wave.” - Mayor Fred Eisenberger
