Hamilton Trillium Award Winners announced at Mum Show Preview Event
HAMILTON, ON - October 21, 2016 - The City of Hamilton’s 96th Annual Fall Garden & Mum Show kicked off last night with the annual Public Works horticultural celebration held at the Gage Park Greenhouse facility.
The event included recognition of the Hamilton in Bloom traffic island flower bed sponsors, the announcement of the 2016 Trillium Award winners, and a special preview before the official opening of the Mum Show this morning.
This year, 339 White Trillium awards were presented to property owners across Hamilton. Sixteen residents received Pink Trillium Awards and Awards of Excellence, and the coveted Red Trillium Award was presented to Pat and Bob Disher in Ward 11.
Mayor Fred Eisenberger and Dan McKinnon, the General Manager of Public Works were both in attendance to present the sought-after awards.
The Horticultural Celebration also included the official opening of this year’s show theme, “Mardi Gras”. The Mum Show is an amazing floral display created by the City’s talented horticulture team. The whole family can enjoy this breathtaking display of over 200 varieties of chrysanthemums, and more than 76,000 blooms.
Visitors can partake in one of the daily workshops to learn practical skills and tips for making the most of their garden space, drop into the Family Zone for popcorn and crafts, listen to the live entertainment, enjoy the taste of Mardis Gras at the café or just take in the beautiful colours of fall.
The Mum Show offers free parking, and is open daily from 9 am to 7 pm. Admission is $6.50 for adults and $5.50 for seniors and children five to 12. Children under five are free.
