Hamiltonians invited to attend ceremony for the Hamilton and Scourge at Dundurn National Historic Site
Hamilton, ON - August 4, 2017 - The public is invited to attend a ceremony commemorating the loss of 53 American sailors during the sinking of the armed schooners Hamilton and Scourge in the early morning hours of August 8, 1813.

- Location: Front lawn of Dundurn Castle
Ceremony participants and attendees are also invited for a free visit to the Hamilton Military Museum exhibit on the War of 1812: Blood Ties to A Gentle Landscape.
The exhibit showcases the historical figures of this area through documentary evidence, period artifacts as well as stories passed down from one generation to the next by their descendants. On the second floor, explore the exhibit, Hamilton & Scourge – Sunken Sunset. View a film in our theatre space and experience life as a soldier or sailor in the Discovery Gallery. There is something for everyone, including games for children.
About the Hamilton & Scourge National Historic Site
The Hamilton and Scourge survive intact in 90 metres of water at the bottom of Lake Ontario. The site is a designated National Historic Site. It is also a designated underwater archaeological site requiring special protection under the Ontario Heritage Act. The City of Hamilton owns the vessels. The City is responsible for their stewardship and long-term management.
