Home Heavily Damaged in Morning Fire
HAMILTON, ON – May 18, 2017 – Hamilton Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire at 398 Catharine Street North, Hamilton at approximately 10:25 a.m. this morning. Upon arrival firefighters found the occupants outside of the house and confirmed a well involved fire with flames showing from the third floor windows in this 2 ½ storey detached house.
Due to the heavy volume of fire encountered and the proximity of the neighbouring homes, additional units were dispatched to the location to assist in firefighting operations. Crews entering the home found a well involved fire in the third floor and firefighters were able to extinguish the fire after an aggressive interior attack with no fire spread to the neighbouring homes.
Damage to the home is extensive and has been estimated at approximately $300,000. There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire has been determined to be an electrical appliance malfunctioning. Due to the heavy fire and water damage to the home, it is presently uninhabitable and Red Cross was contacted to the scene to assist occupants with alternate accommodation.
