Join us June 1 as the City of Hamilton accepts the ParticipACTION Community Better Challenge
HAMILTON, ON – The ParticipACTION Community Better Challenge is underway! The City of Hamilton is taking part in the Challenge – a national movement to get Canadians across the country to sit less and move more together – and invite residents of Hamilton to join us and help our community be crowned Canada’s Most Active Community.
With the 2018 ParticipACTION Pulse Report revealing that 70 per cent of Canadians would be more physically active if their family and friends were also active, ParticipACTION launched its Community Better Challenge from May 31 to June 16. For the duration of the Challenge, residents will be asked to track their physical activity (including walking, cycling, swimming, housework, active play, sports, etc.) for two weeks through the ParticipACTION app or online at community.participaction.com.
To engage our community in taking part in the ParticipACTION Community Better Challenge, local residents and families are invited to come out and get active with Councillor Esther Pauls at the kick off event at City Hall. City of Hamilton Healthy and Safe Communities staff and representatives from Hamilton Moves will be leading stations with an obstacle course and other fun activities based on the fundamental movement skills of agility, flexibility, and balance.
Come dressed to move so you can visit our physical activity stations and start tracking your minutes!
Date: Saturday, June 1, 2019
Time: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Location: Hamilton City Hall Forecourt (71 Main Street West, Hamilton, ON)
The ParticipACTION Community Better Challenge is open to all communities and individuals, ultimately crowning the community with the most tracked physical activity minutes as Canada’s Most Active Community. The Challenge will award Canada’s Most Active Community with $150,000, along with five regional community winners who will receive $20,000 each, to support local physical activity initiatives. Finalists and the grand prize winner will be announced at the end of June 2019.
