LED street lights to be installed on LINC and Red Hill Valley Parkway
Hamilton, ON – February 3, 2016 – Beginning tonight, the City of Hamilton will start replacing street lighting along the Lincoln Alexander Parkway and Red Hill Valley Parkway, including off-ramps, as part of a major city-wide street lighting conversion project. The high-pressure sodium cobra head street lights will be replaced with energy and cost efficient light-emitting diode (LED) lights.
The work will take place overnight between 9 pm and 6 am. No lane closures or major traffic delays are expected but motorists will notice a police presence to ensure a safe working environment in the dark. Work will take place Wednesday and Thursday night and may continue into next week.
The City replaced more than 10,000 street lights on arterial and collector roads last year. LED street lights improve visibility, consume 50-60 per cent less electricity, save costs and assist in reducing the City’s environmental footprint. The lights are also designed to operate maintenance-free for upwards of 20 years; thereby significantly reducing the City’s annual operating costs.
