Let’s Connect, Hamilton - we want to hear from you on City Services and Assets
HAMILTON, ON – The City of Hamilton is looking to hear from the community to receive their feedback on three service areas, through surveys which launched February 13 as part of the City’s Services and Assets Review. The feedback received will be used to inform the development and execution of the City’s Corporate Asset Management Plan, which is required to meet provincial legislative requirements. The first round of surveys, covering, Parking, Police and Waste Management services, closes on March 20, 2023.
An integral part of developing the Corporate Asset Management Plan is a series of public engagement surveys to connect with the Hamilton community on what is important to them when it comes to the City’s programs and services. The City is asking residents to share their feedback to ensure future taxpayer dollars are being spent consistent with the community’s needs and expectations while meeting legislative requirements and standards.
The City conducted surveys on the core assets (roads, engineered structures, water, wastewater, stormwater) in early 2022 and is planning to conduct surveys for all City services throughout 2023 and 2024. In addition, regular engagement will be held every year to ensure valuable public input is received regularly.
The City of Hamilton delivers many important services to residents, visitors, business owners, students and tourists that are dependent on infrastructure such as transit, roads, bridges, city facilities and clean water and wastewater treatment. How the City's infrastructure (our assets) is managed throughout its life becomes a critical foundation of our ability to offer great services.
Good asset management planning allows municipalities to stretch capital dollars by helping them make well-informed, evidence-based decisions. It's about making the right infrastructure investments in the right places, at the right time to meet required levels of service in the most cost-effective manner, through the management of assets for now and the future.
Community feedback is vital to preparing the Asset Management Plan, and to ensure the thoughts, opinions and satisfaction levels are thoughtfully considered as the plan, priorities and strategies are developed.

Quick Facts:
- Asset management planning is an ongoing and long-term process that allows municipalities to make the best possible investment decisions for their infrastructure assets. This includes building, operation, maintenance, renewal, replacement and disposal.
- In many parts of Ontario, existing infrastructure is degrading faster than it is being repaired or replaced, putting services at risk. To help address this issue, the Province implemented the Asset Management Planning for Municipal Infrastructure Regulation, O. Reg. 588/17, effective January 1, 2018.
"Providing quality services and building and maintaining good infrastructure is at the core of what the City and this Council endeavour to do for every community member in all parts of Hamilton. These newly launched surveys are an essential tool so that residents can provide feedback that will allow the City to move forward in an evidence-based manner."
Mayor Andrea Horwath
