Long-term closure on the west leg of the Sherman Access and Wentworth Stairs beginning Tuesday
HAMILTON, ON - June 29, 2017 - The City of Hamilton will be closing the west leg of the Sherman Access and the entire length of the Wentworth Stairs for long-term construction beginning Tuesday, July 4, 2017.
The west leg of the Sherman Access will be closed from the bottom of the Sherman Cut to Charlton Ave East while the City reconstructs the retaining structures along the roadway. The entire length of the Wentworth Stairs will also be closed to allow crews to rehabilitate the footings at the base of the stairs and complete proactive work to alleviate erosion along the footpath beside the stairs.
Both closures are expected to last until late November.
Down-bound traffic coming off the Claremont Access will still be able to access the bottom of the west leg of the Sherman Access to Charlton Ave E throughout the construction period. The east leg of the Sherman Access will remain open unless otherwise noted.
The City thanks motorists for their patience and cooperation as we work to ensure continued public safety along the escarpment roadways.
