Multiple alarm fire on the City's east mountain (Ward 6)
Hamilton, ON - At approximately 3:18 p.m. this afternoon, the Hamilton Fire Department received a report of a structure fire at 824 Upper Ottawa Street near Mohawk Road in Ward 6. As crews were responding they reported heavy smoke visible in the area.
On arrival crews confirmed a well involved fire in an extended garage that was attached to a one storey frame house. The fire was quickly extending into the main roof of the house. Based on the fire conditions being presented, the alarm was immediately upgraded to bring resources from across the City.Two residents of the home had self evacuated and were suffering from smoke inhalation. Both were provided first aid by firefighters and then placed in the care of Hamilton Paramedics, who transported them to hospital. An update on there condition is unknown at this time.
On scene crews initiated aggressive interior fire suppression and search and rescue operations and were able to bring the fire under control in approximately 15 minutes. The garage area has sustained extensive damage as has the main roof of the home. The house has also sustained significant smoke and water damage. Damage to the overall home is extensive. Damage estimates and cause have not yet been determined. At the time of this writing no other injuries to firefighters or civilians have been reported. It is expected that crews will be on scene for some time extinguishing hot spots.
