New digital information displays being installed in HSR buses
HAMILTON, ON – February 10, 2016 – HSR riders will start to notice new digital media displays on select buses as part of a pilot project that will improve the transit rider experience by providing geo-targeted digital content on their trip.
The pilot project is a partnership between the City’s Revenue Generation Office, StreetSeen Media – who holds the City’s contract for bus advertising – and GeoSignage Canada who is providing the display and content management technology. The vendor is paying for the technology and the City will be provided with revenue from the screens that can be used to enhance the City’s transit assets and rider experience.
As part of its multiple functionalities, the technology will provide location-based and up-to-the-minute City and community messaging, public service announcements such as amber alerts, news, weather, and sports updates, as well as advertisements. During the pilot, additional functionalities to enhance the rider’s experience such as free Wi-Fi will be explored and tested.
The equipment will be installed on 40 buses by the end of 2016.
