New Elevated Offerings at the Hamilton Museum of Steam & Technology
HAMILTON, ON - Hamilton Museum of Steam & Technology invites the public to truly engage in immersive programming. NEW Behind the Scenes Tours have been developed to fulfill demand for more enhanced experiences.
Curator-led tours are offered on Mondays May 13, June 10, July 8, August 26, September 9, October 7, 2019 from 10 am to 12 noon. Tickets are $30 per person and pre-registration is required.
Interpreter-led tours are offered on Saturdays July 6, 13, 20, 27 and August 3, 10, 17, 24, 31, 2019 from 10 am to 12 noon. Tickets are $25 per person and pre-registration is required.
Behind the Scenes Tours invite guests to discover the Museum from an entirely different perspective. Roll up their sleeves, put on a hard hat, and join us behind the scenes. Participants will see the 1859 Gartshore pumping engines from every angle. Get up close and personal with the walking beam, the oil cups and the flywheel. Visit the artifact storage buildings and learn more about Hamilton’s fascinating industrial history. Explore the 1913 building, see our largest artifacts and learn about Hamilton’s first electric Pumphouse. Guests will be immersed in the complete history of this fascinating museum, learn about the people, hear the full story, and depart with a clear understanding of how this marvel of engineering truly worked.

- The Hamilton Museum of Steam & Technology is owned and operated by the City of Hamilton
- The Museum is a National Historic Site of Canada and a Civil and Power Engineering Landmark
- Housed in a 160-year-old Waterworks, the Museum preserves two 70-ton steam powered water pumping engines, perhaps the oldest surviving Canadian-built engines.
Tickets are available for purchase online and pre-registration is required. The ticket purchase includes a family admission pass valid at any one of the Hamilton Civic Museums (maximum value=$32). Participants must be 14 years of age or older.
