Nominations Now Open for City of Hamilton 2018 Arts Awards

HAMILTON, ON - The City of Hamilton is pleased to announce the official launch of the 2018 Arts Awards program - one of the oldest programs in Canada to recognize the vital contribution that artists make to a community. Nominations are now being accepted and can be submitted on or before Friday, February 16, 2018 at 4 pm. 

The City of Hamilton Arts Awards recognizes the outstanding achievements of our city’s established and emerging artists in eleven categories and presents $36,500 in cash awards. Award recipients will be announced at a public event in June 2018 as part of Hamilton Arts Week.

New for 2018

Emerging artists (practicing professionally for five years or less) can be nominated for the Shirley Elford Emerging Artist Prize, presented by the Shirley M. Elford Artist's Fund at Hamilton Community Foundation.

The Prize is to be awarded in memory of the late Shirley Elford, a Hamilton artist celebrated for her excellence in glass work and for giving back to the local arts community and community at large. The prize category will change annually – in 2018, the prize will be awarded in Fine Craft.

In addition to profiling and honouring nominees, the event will feature performances by local artists and dynamic arts programming, continuing a growing tradition of celebration and respect for Hamilton’s creative culture.
