Official ribbon cutting ceremony and grand opening at John Rebecca Park
HAMILTON, ON – This afternoon, City staff welcomed Ward 2 Councillor Jason Farr and Graham McNally to formally open John Rebecca Park after construction began in June 2019.
In 2018, Hamilton City Council formally accepted a generous donation of $1 million from the Patrick J. McNally Charitable Foundation to support construction at John Rebecca Park. The Patrick J. McNally Charitable Foundation aims to support the development of parks, outdoor spaces and buildings that provide opportunities for communities in Hamilton and Burlington to learn, explore and enjoy.
The former parking lot turned park is meant to promote downtown revitalization and service residents and visitors from the downtown core and surrounding areas. The 1.5 acre park includes:
- A spray plaza
- An ice rink
- A shade structure
- Tree and perennial planting
- Accessible asphalt walkways
- Various types of seating including benches and mingle tables
- Stormwater management features including rain gardens and tree groves
Residents are invited to attend a community event this weekend to celebrate the opening of John Rebecca Park.
