Precautionary Boil Water Advisory issued for Brigadoon Drive
HAMILTON, ON – September 21, 2016 - A Precautionary Boil Water Advisory has been issued by the City of Hamilton Public Health Services to residents on Brigadoon Drive from Apple Blossom Drive to Glenview Place, Matthew Street, Nature Court, Gledhill Crescent, Galt Street, Glenview Place, and Graywood Road affecting approximately 260 properties (please see attached map). Hamilton Water is phoning residents and distributing yellow coloured Boil Water Advisories door-to-door to homes within this area. See the attached Advisory for details regarding the domestic uses for which the municipal tap water can be used and other precautionary measures.
The Advisory is being issued due to lab test results that indicate excessive bacterial contamination existed in a water sample collected from a fire hydrant on Brigadoon Drive near Nature Court on September 19, 2016.
This is a precautionary measure and Hamilton Water is conducting further sampling and testing over the next 24 to 48 hours to verify the safety of the drinking water. If the follow up resampling and testing is free of bacteria then it is expected that Boil Water Advisory should be lifted by Friday afternoon or evening.
“We want to caution people that although there have not been any reports of illness, residents who receive the Boil Water Advisory need to boil their water for one full minute before drinking or using it for activities when water could be swallowed,” said Dr. Jessica Hopkins, Associate Medical Officer of Health for Hamilton Public Health Services. “The elderly, the very young and those with weakened immune systems have the most potential risk, but we are asking everyone to be careful until we are satisfied that the advisory can be lifted.”
