Spring Tide Bulb Show first major event at the new Gage Park Tropical Greenhouse
HAMILTON, ON – We all need a taste of spring after this long, cold winter. Come see what’s blooming at the newly completed Gage Park Tropical Greenhouse opening this weekend. The 12th Annual City of Hamilton Spring Tide Bulb Show kicks off this Friday, March 8 and runs until Sunday, March 17, 2019.
This is a great way to spend time with family during March Break. Welcome spring early while enjoying the bursting colours and scents of spring flowers. Stroll leisurely among the displays, participate in our scavenger hunt and see the new and unique tropical palms, shrubs and vines.
The show is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free however food and monetary donations to the Hamilton Food Share are encouraged. Parking at Gage Park is free. Entrance to the park and greenhouse is from Lawrence Road.

- This year’s Spring Tide Bulb Show is themed Hawaiian Luau.
- This year’s show will feature thousands of blooms and include new water features with aquatic water lilies and lotus.
- The first Spring Tide Bulb Show was held in 2007.
- The show was developed to offer citizens respite from the long winter weather months by providing beautiful spring floral displays featuring early blooming bulbs in the Gage Park Tropical Greenhouse.
- The show is organized entirely by the City of Hamilton’s Horticulture staff.
Quick Facts – Gage Park Tropical Greenhouse
- Revitalization of this cultural landmark began in July 2017 with a plant give away to the public from the old greenhouse before it was torn down.
- Located at the south end of Gage Park in East Hamilton, the Gage Park Tropical Greenhouse supports the City of Hamilton’s substantial collection of subtropical plants, unique species and palm trees.
- The newly constructed 14,000 square-foot (1,300 square metre), fully accessible greenhouse also features waterfalls which trickle down to two separate ponds at each end of the greenhouse where turtles, fish and water lilies reside. The circular path guides visitors around the greenhouse, and a bank of tiered concrete provides seating and an overview of the collection.
- The greenhouse is designed as a community gathering place, providing opportunities to use the greenhouse as an educational center and as a rentable space for special events.
- The new tropical greenhouse will be free to the public to view daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- The City of Hamilton will host a formal ceremony to officially open the building at a later date.
