Tropical plant giveaway at the old Gage Park Tropical Greenhouse

HAMILTON, ON - June 1, 2017 - The City of Hamilton is hosting a tropical plant giveaway in preparation for demolition of the old Gage Park Tropical Greenhouse later this month.

Residents with a green thumb are invited to drop by the Gage Park Tropical Greenhouse between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Saturday, June 3 to dig up and re-home some tropical plants.  

While the City is preserving some of the more unique and special plants for the new Greenhouse, many interesting and attractive tropical plants will be available, free for the digging.

Residents should wear closed-toe shoes and bring along their own shovel, gloves and containers.

Crews will begin construction at the Tropical Greenhouse later this month, starting with demolition of the existing building. The new facility is expected be complete in late summer 2018.
