Afternoon fire damages three homes and one severely
HAMILTON, ON – June 11, 2018 – The Hamilton Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at the rear of a house located at 44 Pavilion Drive, Glanbrook at approximately 12:58 pm this afternoon. Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed heavy fire and smoke at the rear of 44 Pavilion Drive with flames impinging on neighboring homes.
Due to close proximity of neighbouring houses, this alarm was upgraded to a Multiple Alarm which brought additional firefighters to the scene to assist in firefighting operations. Firefighters initiated search and rescue procedures and an aggressive interior attack but were then forced out of 44 Pavilion Dr. due to concern about the structural integrity and volume of fire. At that point the crews adopted an exterior attack, firefighting operations on 44 Pavilion were then conducted in a defensive mode with hose lines deployed to protect the exposure homes (48 and 40 Pavilion Dr.).
Despite their efforts 44 Pavilion Drive suffered extensive damages and the home is uninhabitable at this time. There was no fire spread to neighbouring home but they did suffer heat damages to the exterior cladding, roofing and an above ground pool.
Damage to the homes is estimated to be approximately $1 million in dollar loss and the Office of the Fire Marshal has been notified of this fire because of the high dollar loss. The probable cause of this fire was electrical in nature at the rear deck of 44 Pavilion Drive.
There were no reported injuries to the public but two firefighters were injured with one treated on scene for a leg injury. The other firefighter was transported to hospital with minor burns to his neck sustained while conducting firefighting operations inside 44 Pavilion Drive and he was been treated at the hospital and returned to regular duties.
