City of Hamilton Launches Animal Adoption Program
HAMILTON, ON – Some say there’s nothing like coming home to a loving pet every day. The City of Hamilton’s Animal Services wants to make that a reality for more Hamiltonians. That’s why they have launched a full service Animal Adoption program. From cats to dogs, kittens and puppies, and even to the occasional bird or rabbit, they’ve got it all.
“We make sure we match the right pet with the right owner. We also take a very comprehensive approach to our program. We ensure that all pets have all their vaccinations and are in proper health before we adopt them out. We try to match the animal’s disposition, and frankly their personality, to their potential owners so that the pet becomes a loved part of their family,” says Ken Leendertse, Director of Licensing and Bylaw Services.
Animal Services staff will also ask clients a number of questions to assess the level of activity in the home and type of lifestyle of the new owner. For instance, for some senior clients, a more reserved animal might be the right choice. As well, those raising a young family might be better suited to a more active pet. How often a person travels and their time commitment to caring for the pet also is a consideration. Again, the success is matching in the right animal with the right home for the happiness for all.
