City of Hamilton outlines 2021 Federal Priorities

HAMILTON, ON –With the 2021 federal election campaign underway, the City of Hamilton has released its list of priorities.The goals are in line with the Term of Council priorities and are aimed at building a stronger and more inclusive Hamilton for all residents.

Working collaboratively with its partners in a newly elected federal government, Hamilton hopes to work with Parliament on the following priorities:

1. Supportive Housing and Tackling Poverty – addressing the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on vulnerable populations through supports for homelessness and an affordable housing strategy.
2. Impacts of Climate Change – disaster mitigation and adaption support for areas either impacted or at risk of being impacted by the effects of climate change.
3. Strong Economic Recovery – investment in critical infrastructure to support economic development and continued support for workers and businesses recovering from the effects of COVID-19.
4. Equity, Diversity and Inclusion – support for marginalized communities that have been impacted by hate-related incidents, namely, the Black, Muslim, Jewish, Asian, 2SLGBTQIA+, and Indigenous communities.
5. Championing Rural Communities by committing to universal internet access and applying a rural lens to policy and funding decisions.

These priorities will be shared with all federal candidates running for office in our community.
