Construction beginning on Cannon St between James St N and Sherman Ave N for road resurfacing and cycle track improvements
HAMILTON, ON – On Monday, May 13, 2019, the City of Hamilton will begin construction on Cannon St between James St N and Sherman Ave N. The project involves road resurfacing and Cycle Track improvements, including concrete barrier curbs at selected locations and enhanced pavement markings.
Cannon St will be reduced to two lanes between James St N and Sherman Ave N beginning Monday, May 13 for the duration of the project.
To accommodate large volumes of motorists and ensure the safety of cyclists, the Cycle Track will be closed for the duration of the resurfacing project and is expected to reopen by October 2019. A map showing potential alternate routes to help cyclists plan their travel during construction can be found at: www.hamilton.ca/CannonStImprovements. There will be no parking along Cannon St for the duration of construction.
Cycle Track improvements including barrier curbs and bollards will enhance separation between cyclists and motor traffic. Pavement markings and rumble strips will alert drivers to proceed with caution.
HSR customers on routes 3 Cannon will be traveling through the construction zone and will likely experience delays. Customers traveling on routes 2 Barton, 4 Bayfront, 12 Wentworth, and 20 A line may also experience delays.
Given the significance of this project, the City has launched a dedicated project website to share timelines and details, detour routes and more: www.hamilton.ca/CannonStImprovements
The City of Hamilton thanks residents for their patience and cooperation as we complete these important infrastructure upgrades.
