Hamilton’s Ontario Works cheques must be picked up in October
HAMILTON, ON — Due to a possible interruption in postal service, Hamilton’s Ontario Works program is requesting Ontario Works clients who normally receive cheques in the mail to pick up their cheques at a downtown location.
Clients who usually receive Ontario Works benefit cheques and statements through Canada Post are asked to pick up their cheques for October at Carisma Church, 16 West Avenue South on Sept. 27, Sept. 28 or Oct. 1 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
The City has confirmed that the October client cheques will not be mailed regardless of whether a settlement is reached between postal workers and Canada Post. The local Ontario Works office made this decision to ensure clients receive their October monthly cheque.
Clients who receive payments through direct deposit will not be affected by any Canada Post labour disruption.
Quick facts
- Ontario Works cheque recipients must show valid government-issued ID.
- Ontario Works clients who are on direct bank deposit will still receive their money through that method. These clients do not need to pick up their cheques.
- Landlords will be able to pick up cheques from noon to 4 p.m. at the Ontario Works office located at 2255 Barton St. East in Hamilton.
The City will provide updated information on its website www.hamilton.ca/ontarioworks and through its social media platforms.
